This will depend on the amount you can afford to save, what you are trying to achieve and the length of time for which you will be saving as well as on your personal taxation situation and the amount of risk, if any, that you may wish to take with these savings.
In terms of tax efficiency for UK residents, it is hard to beat an ISA and ISAs can accept any amount up to £10,200 per person per annum.
