Debt Credit Counselling

Debt plans can have long-lasting implications for your credit rating and future borrowing potential, so it is extremely important that you choose the right debt credit solution for you. To ensure that you are fully informed about the options that are available to you, you may find debt credit counselling helpful. This involves talking through your options with a debt specialist, who can use factors including your income, your disposable income, your credit rating and your current debts to determine the best way for you to get out of debt.

Debt credit counselling can provide a huge benefit to you if you are having trouble coping with your debts, because the debt specialist will offer both professional advice and a sympathetic ear. It can be isolating if you are in debt, as you may be unwilling to let your friends and family know about your situation. This sometimes results in people ignoring their debt, until it accumulates to unmanageable levels where their creditors are applying for county court judgements against them to recoup their money. To avoid falling into this trap, and to find a way of repaying your debts whilst staying within your means, apply to speak to a debt specialist and arrange debt credit counselling today.

Debt Credit Counselling: The Facts

  • When you meet with a specialist for debt credit counselling, you will be expected to provide details of your income, your monthly outgoings and all the companies to whom you owe money.  This will help the adviser to work out the money that you have available each month for use in paying off your debts.
  • You will have to give careful thought as to the necessity of all your monthly expenses.  You may not realise how many outgoings you have each month, and there may be expenses such as magazine subscriptions or a satellite television package that you could do without until you have paid back your debts.  You may find it useful to go over a typical bank statement during your debt credit counselling session to see where cutbacks could be made.
  • The debt credit counselling session will force you to be realistic about your spending.  Do you factor in all of your monthly expenses, or have you not taken into consideration a quarterly haircut, your health insurance payments and buying petrol for your car?  The key to good financial management is being aware of every payment that you make.
  • If you find it difficult to manage a bank account with an overdraft, your debt specialist can provide you with details of some good basic bank accounts on the market.  You would not be able to spend more than the amount available in your account, but you would still be able to set up direct debits and write cheques as you would with a standard current account.
