May I suggest you look to the Cash Plan market whereby Homeopathy is generally within he standard therapy cover. If you can get the scheme paid for by a company pre existing medical questions maybe covered. 100% rebate up to set limits. www.westfieldhealth.com (Corporate plans start from £1 per person, per week)

Steve. You would need to ref to the specific PMI provider re the terms of their excess as both options are in the market. Excess is a great way to lower costs of PMI, hopefully it is the sort of insurance you won't use in 10 years so any savings year on year could be held in your bank for that inevitable day in the future when you need to pay the large excess. In reality, by that point if your sick you won't care what it costs to get fixed.

An alternative to look at to keep cost low would be a health cash plan (HCP). In a HCP you may have a consultation buget, or MRI scans etc that can help speed up the process of diagnoise, but for the years in between when your perfectly fit and well you can claim for dental, optical & therapy bills etc.

A cash plan can be great value for your everyday costs, dental optical etc. Via Westfield Health's new Foresight Product you can also look to use the cash plan consultation budget to pay for a PMI excess (knock on savings on PMI plan, should make a good contribution towards costs of Cash Plan)

HCP can also help you to safe guard against future PMI premium rises by staff using the HCP instead of PMI at outset of an issue i.e Physio treatment, hopefully stopping small claims being made against the PMI At Westfield the HCP is not costed in connection to claims, but instead the common pool. This is what gives them the stability of prices.

Forsight levels 1 & 2 same price since 1999.

In simple terms, you have PMI to cover the big stuff incase you get really sick and you need to go in hospital or have tests etc. Hopefully you pay if for years, never get sick but when you do you'll be glad you had it

HCP on the other hand is about the day to day stuff you need to cover even when your well. Dentist bills, Opticians etc - with the added benefit of that if you do get sick, many HCP offer you a small amount of benefits in other areas like therapies (Physio, Osteopath etc) & Consultation benefit. The consultation benefit in a HCP can still be used to go private initially to see the consultant when you get sick, but once you run out of benefit you can be transfered back to the NHS to continue your treatment. The whole point is to help you reduce your waiting times to get seen in the first place and establish if there actually is something wrong.

Hope that helps!

P.S - The best option for Cash Plan is always if you get your company to buy it as an employee benefit - This will give you the best terms, Pre existing conditions covered, 100% refund up to set limits. Plans generally start from £1 per person / per week.
