Family income benefit is a type of term assurance which pays out an income rather than a lump sum. For instance you could a policy with a sum assured of £20,000 over 21 years. This would provide an income of £20,000 per year until the end of the term of policy. These policies are often relatively cheap, since the total amount that could be paid out reduces every year. They are typically used to protect a family or provide an income to guardians of a child if the parents die.
